i have been signed up to twitter for a while also although i have never much liked the GUI and i believe its just too big and unorganized, for twitter like experience i use a site called Jaiku http://jaiku.com which has a fantastic GUI and plenty other nice features that twitter doesnt have, my main problem is there is no IM service yet, although they are workin on it. there is a mobile phone app for it too which is cool, try the service out and add me as a contact too http://seanprice.jaiku.com and i also made a blog post about features i would like to see on jaiku: ibox-security.net/seanprice/blog/10-jaiku-features-i-would-like/
